Pantelleria, un grande
vulcano addormentato ed immerso in un
mare blu cobalto tra due continenti, l’Europa
e l’Africa, sta quasi a delimitare la Sicilia dalla Tunisia.
Questa isola, non adatta
ad un turismo di massa, rappresenta l’anima autentica siciliana… aspra, a volte
ostica, aperta e solare, ma solo in apparenza e serrata come un’ostrica, se si
prova ad essere invadenti, ma se le dai il tempo di conoscerla non l’abbandonerai
più.
In questa terra di mezzo, ricercata anche come terra del buen retiro tutto ha un sapore antico,
di tempi andati e quindi il luogo ideale dove ritrovare se stessi in mezzo ad
una natura ancora incontaminata.
I dammusi, risalenti
anche al ‘700, strutture tipiche dell'isola, sono caratterizzate da bianchi tetti a cupola,
larghe mura rivestite in pietra e ampi spazi esterni con cannicciate, frutto
della civiltà araba e del lavoro dei contadini panteschi.
Il dammuso nasce come elemento
rurale e tiene conto delle peculiarità di questa isola: il vento, il caldo, la
scarsità di piogge e la ricchezza di materiale lavico.
Tutti gli elementi che caratterizzano queste costruzioni hanno una
funzione specifica. I tetti a cupola
servono per convogliare l’acqua piovana nelle
cisterne; gli spessi muri, fino a un
metro e quaranta di spessore, garantiscono l’isolamento contro il caldo d’estate
ed il freddo d’inverno, così come le piccole dimensioni di finestre e porte.
Quasi sempre accanto ad un dammuso si trova una costruzione circolare in pietra
lavica chiamato “Jardinu” dentro la
quale si coltivano alberi da frutto, protetti così dall’incessante vento che
batte l’isola.
Come vuole la tradizione
locale i tetti vengono usati anche come luogo da abitare, ad esempio immaginate
proprio adesso, socchiudendo i vostri occhi, di esser seduti su cuscini posti
su kilim di Mariella Ienna a
sorseggiare un passito ambrato al
tramonto guardando l’infinito dietro il blu cobalto…
Gli spazi di una casa vengono
vissuti completamente, così come il pranzo all’aperto sotto un pergolato di
cannicciata, protetta da un muro di pietra lavica, costante dei panorami
isolani, diventa un must anche per i turisti, così come la fresca insalata
pantesca, dai sapori decisi e delicati ad un tempo e variopinta, con il
tocco immancabile dei freschi capperi locali ed accompagnata da un calice di
vino bianco di uve Zibibbo 100%...
I panorami dei giardini
si articolano tra palme, gelsi, agrumi, pistacchi, ulivi fichi d’india che si
alternano tra i giardini della macchia mediterranea terrazzati trasmettono un
perfetto equilibrio tra madre natura e l’uomo. Nel 2014, infatti, l'Unesco ha
riconosciuto l'importanza e l'unicità della "Pratica agricola
della vite ad alberello" iscrivendola nella Lista del
Patrimonio Immateriale dell'Umanità.
Nonostante sia un’isola rocciosa, gli antichi sentieri che venivano percorsi
sul dorso dei muli, oggi grazie al progetto nato dalla volontà dell’Azienda
Foreste Demaniali della Regione Sicilia, hanno nuova vita e coprono
una distanza di circa 200 Km percorribili come sentieri da trekking. Di questi,
38 Km sono adatti anche per gli amanti della mountain-bike.
Alla fine del vostro soggiorno, un ultimo bacio, il dolce per antonomasia di
Pantelleria, frittelle croccanti farcite con ricotta dolce, sarà uno degli
innumerevoli motivi per cui si desidererà ritornare a Pantelleria.

The dammusi, dating back to the '700, typical structures of the island, are characterized by white domed roofs, wide walls covered with stone and large outdoor spaces with cannicciate, the result of the Arab civilization and the work of the peasants of Pantelleria.
The dammuso was born as a rural element and takes into account the peculiarities of this island: the wind, the heat, the scarcity of rain and the richness of lava material.
All the elements that characterize these buildings have a specific function. The domed roofs serve to channel rainwater into cisterns; the thick walls, up to one meter and forty feet thick, provide insulation against the heat in summer and the cold in winter, as well as the small size of windows and doors. Almost always next to a dammuso is a circular construction in lava stone called "Jardinu" in which fruit trees are grown, protected from the incessant wind that beats the island.
According to the local tradition, the roofs are also used as a place to live, for example imagine right now, squinting your eyes, to be sitting on cushions placed on Mariella Ienna's kilim, sipping an amber raisin wine at sunset looking at the infinity behind the cobalt blue...

Despite being a rocky island, the ancient paths that were traveled on the backs of mules, today, thanks to the project born from the will of the Azienda Foreste Demaniali of the Sicily Region, have new life and cover a distance of about 200 km passable as hiking trails. Of these, 38 km are also suitable for lovers of mountain biking.
