L’Etna, il vulcano attivo più grande d’Europa e Patrimonio Unesco dal 2013, è terra di fuoco, di aria e di acqua, ma anche di luce che creano continuamente colori magnifici che esplodono ovunque. Torrenti grigio antracite di colate da poco spente che s’illuminano del rosa vermiglio e del fucsia degli spontanei romici e cuscini verde e viola della saponaria il tenue l’arancio, il verde ed il bianco delle betulle endemiche, il tappeto infinito di giallo cadmio delle ginestre etnee, il color rame dei castagni autunnali, il viola scuro e l’ocra perlaceo di grappoli di viti, il rosa delicato dei ciclamini, il bianco da sposa della neve in inverno che spicca sotto una luce inebriante, il verde scuro degli ulivi, l’arancio ed il giallo degli agrumi che si mescolano insieme al verde delle foglie della piana di Catania per giungere attraverso una distesa d’oro di sabbia fine sino a tuffarsi nel blu dello Jonio.
E’ questa l’immagine dell’Etna che mi piace di più rappresentare, proprio perché Etna, non è solo la cima della montagna, ma già il pezzo di terra su cui poggi il piede appena scesa dall’aereo…
“A Muntagna”, è questo il nome che noi catanesi le attribuiamo ed è il primo pensiero appena svegli che ci fa ammirare se la sua prima immagine che ci regala sia accompagnata da un pennacchio di fumo o da la contessa dell’Etna, Altocumulus lenticulaus, il fenomeno scientificamente spiegato quando sull’Etna soffiano i venti da ponente ed incontrano il vulcano come fosse un deflettore, una effettiva barriera, si innalzano umidificandosi, ma ad alta quota i due venti opposti ruotano su se stessi “contendendosi”, appunto la nube che ne deriva. La nube lenticolare è un’affascinante e tipico fenomeno etneo che cattura l’attenzione di tutti gli abitanti dell’area catanese, la sua forma a volte di mandorla schiacciata, altre di un “cappello”, riesce anche a colorarsi dalle molte sfumature di rosa, rendendo l’evento molto suggestivo.
L’Etna è anche eruzioni vulcaniche che ci invita a non dimenticare di essere sempre un vulcano attivo che tra eruzioni importanti e parossismi spettacolari, ci ricorda il nostro ruolo di ospiti rispettosi .
Ma non molti sanno che Etna è anche la montagna dei catanesi dove andare a sciare, con i suoi impianti di risalita sia ad Etna sud che ad Etna Nord, dove la neve in genere permane di più, ma anche le passeggiate con le ciaspole, hanno regalato al territorio un + 50% negli ultimi anni, incontro ad un turismo responsabile ed ecosostenibile, rallentando il ritmo della vita, ma potenziando una attività aerobica in aiuto all’apparato cardio-vascolare e respiratorio, tonificando muscoli e soprattutto gambe. Ma anche gli amanti del MtB sono i protagonisti dei sentieri odorosi etnei, dove più generazioni trovano momenti di aggregazione e compartecipazione, legati ad attività e scoperta di territori ancora inesplorati.

Etna, a unique land in the world
