La più lontana delle "7 sorelle" delle isole Eolie, chiamata anticamente Phenicusa, si trova sospesa tra il cielo ed il mare, dove "qui senza giorni, né ore è solo un riflesso la percezione di me. Così resto fermo dinanzi al buon cielo l'indice sulle labbra sperando che il mondo mi abbia oltrepassato", così scrive il fotografo Giovanni Gastel .
Con un’ anima discreta, l'isola richiama a sé, soprattutto, coloro i quali scelgono una vacanza slow all'insegna del relax d’estate, ma diventa magica d’inverno agli occhi di chi può godere della sua veste reale, quotidiana, con le passeggiate lungo le antiche mulattiere… pura poesia.
Un'isola silenziosa che si erge dal mare, un paradiso naturale, la forza magnetica dei suoi vulcani spenti, gli scarsi collegamenti alla terra ferma, la rendono ancora più magica attraverso il ritmo lento, una natura selvaggia ed una libertà che lascia scoprire la propria essenzialità.
Tra i tetti bianchi che in contrasto con il blu intenso del mare, dipingono un quadro infinito, il vento, nella stagione autunnale ed a volte in estate, quando soffia insistentemente diventa il protagonista indiscusso.
Rifugio di VIP e di chi trova conforto nell'assenza della vita frenetica e nella tradizione eoliana, regala al turista all'interno delle abitazioni anche piastrelle di ceramica invetriata, ricercata accoglienza, arrivata sull'isola da mercanti napoletani, durante il Regno delle due Sicilie come scambio per acquistare Malvasia e capperi.
Filicudi tra la macchia mediterranea offre rigogliosi cespugli di odoroso rosmarino, fichi d’india, fichi, erbe aromatiche e selvatiche come una pennellata di colori che si aggiungono alla tavolozza della natura.
Appena sbarcati sull’isola con l’aliscafo al porto troviamo una spiaggia di ciottoli di origine vulcanica arrotondati nei millenni dallo sciabordio delle onde del mare.
La superficie dell’isola è interamente terrazzata, degni di nota i borghi abbandonati di Zucco Grande o Siccagni traccia indelebile prima dell’invasione della fillossera e della grande emigrazione verso gli Stati Uniti e soprattutto verso l’Australia, quindi totalmente agricola la vocazione dei primi insediamenti del secondo millennio a.C., come testimoniano le tante terrazze, oggi chiamate “lenze”, che venivano ricavate attraverso la costruzione di muretti a secco, oggi Patrimonio Unesco, riuscendo a strappare terra coltivabile all’isola.
Non distante dal porto si trova il promontorio di Capo Graziano, dove è possibile ammirare ancora le fondamenta delle capanne di epoca preistorica, si tratta, per l’appunto, del villaggio di Capo Graziano. Anche il villaggio di Filo Braccio è facilmente raggiungibile a piedi.
Un must è un giro in barca per ammirare paesaggi al di fuori dalle rotte più navigate, con le caratteristiche spiagge di ciottoli e calette.

La più piccola biennale d’arte al mondo
Filicudi ospita artisti e intellettuali con la Biennale la più piccola manifestazione artistica del mondo che si svolge una notte di metà agosto sotto il meraviglioso cielo stellato che fa da cornice.
La Biennale di Filicudi nasce da un’idea di Jaques Basler, Francesco Pessina, Franco Menna e Marcel Cordeiro nell’estate del 1995. Quattro artisti, non nativi, ma che giunti sull’isola separatamente fra gli anni Settanta e sul finire degli anni Ottanta, qui si sono sentiti a casa, tanto da desiderare di condividere la loro arte insieme a tutti gli altri artisti presenti sull’isola.

Filicudi WildLife Conservation
Il Pronto Soccorso Tartarughe Marine di Filicudi è stato istituito dall’associazione Filicudi WildLife Conservation nel 2009 per far fronte alle innumerevoli casistiche di tartarughe marine trovate in difficoltà nelle acque dell’Arcipelago Eoliano. L’associazione organizza campi di ricerca e di eco-volontariato che consentono ai partecipanti di prendere parte alle attività di ricerca e conservazione su cetacei e tartarughe marine, ma anche fantastiche escursioni ed eventi di educazione ambientale.
Ambiente
La popolazione, poco più di 200 abitanti, è distribuita tra i centri di Filicudi-Porto, Valdichiesa, Pecorini, Pecorini a mare, Canale e Rocca di Ciauli, collegati dall’unica strada asfaltata e da una fitta rete di strade pedonali, completamente prive di illuminazione pubblica, qui manca l’acqua corrente, in attesa di costruire un impianto dissalatore, la si trasporta tramite navi cisterna, esattamente come a Stromboli, avendo molta attenzione per l’ambiente.
Food & wine
Le ricette tipiche locali sono legate ovviamente al territorio e vi faranno scoprire o riassaporare i sapori autentici legati alla terra e al mare: Spaghetti olive capperi, cous-cous di pesce, spaghetti al nero di seppia, cernia al forno, totani ripieni al sugo, frittata di menta e nipitella e Rapuddi saltati in padella, ovvero la Brassica Fruticulosa, un tipo di verdura endemica diffusissima nelle eolie ed in particolare a Filicudi, per poter assaporare un sapore autentico!
Spicchitedda filicudari, autentica pasticceria artistica a base di vino rosso cotto, mandorle tostate, chiodi di garofano ed agrumi accompagnati da un ottimo bicchiere ghiacciato di Malvasia è il nostro arrivederci a Filicudi, con un leggera brezza che vi abbraccia ed una luce fatta solo di stelle dove nella memoria del viaggio vi accompagnerà, come scriveva D’Annunzio “l’incanto del silenzio dove l’anima mia si cullava “.
Filicudi: pure magic between sky and sea
The most distant of the "7 sisters" of the Aeolian Islands, called Phenicusa in ancient times, is suspended between the sky and the sea, where "here without days, nor hours is only a reflection of the perception of me. With a discreet soul, the island draws to itself, above all, those who choose a slow vacation of relaxation in the summer, but it becomes magical in the winter in the eyes of those who can enjoy its real, everyday life, with walks along the ancient mule tracks... pure poetry.
A silent island that rises from the sea, a natural paradise, the magnetic force of its extinct volcanoes, the few connections to the mainland, make it even more magical through the slow pace, a wild nature and freedom that lets you discover its essentiality.
Among the white roofs that contrast with the intense blue of the sea, paint an infinite picture, the wind, in autumn and sometimes in summer, when it blows insistently becomes the undisputed protagonist.
Refuge of VIPs and of those who find comfort in the absence of the hectic life and in the Aeolian tradition, it gives to the tourist inside the houses also glazed ceramic tiles, sought after reception, arrived at the island by Neapolitan merchants, during the Kingdom of the two Sicilies as an exchange to buy Malvasia and capers.
Filicudi among the Mediterranean scrub offers lush bushes of fragrant rosemary, prickly pears, figs, aromatic and wild herbs as a brushstroke of colors that are added to the palette of nature.
Like, soon as we land on the island by hydrofoil at the port we find a beach of pebbles of volcanic origin rounded over the millennia by the lapping of the waves of the sea.
The surface of the island is entirely terraced, worthy of note the abandoned villages of Zucco Grande or Siccagni indelible trace before the invasion of phylloxera and the great emigration to the United States and especially to Australia, then totally agricultural vocation of the first settlements of the second millennium BC, as evidenced by the many terraces, now called "lines", which were obtained through the construction of dry stone walls, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, managing to tear cultivable land on the island.

The beach of Pecorini, the cave of the Bue Marino that once was thought to be a refuge for sea monsters, the rock La Canna, a large obelisk, a basalt stacks that some people think of the profile of a Madonna and child and that houses the famous black lizard of the Aeolian Islands are the highlights.
In the seabed around the promontory of Capo Graziano there is an underwater museum accessible only to the most experienced divers: there are nine wrecks lying on the seabed because of shipwrecks in ancient times due to a shoal here.
The smallest art biennial in the world
Filicudi hosts artists and intellectuals with the Biennial, the smallest art event in the world that takes place one night in mid-August under the wonderful starry sky that frames it.
The Filicudi Biennial is the brainchild of Jaques Basler, Francesco Pessina, Franco Menna and Marcel Cordeiro in the summer of 1995. Four artists, not natives, but who came to the island separately between the seventies and the late eighties, felt at home here, so much so that they wanted to share their art with all the other artists on the island.

Filicudi WildLife Conservation
The Filicudi Sea Turtle Rescue Service was established by the Filicudi WildLife Conservation association in 2009 to deal with the countless cases of sea turtles found in difficulty in the waters of the Aeolian Archipelago. The association organizes research and eco-volunteering camps that allow participants to take part in research and conservation activities on cetaceans and sea turtles, but also fantastic excursions and environmental education events.
Environment
The population, a little more than 200 inhabitants, is distributed among the centers of Filicudi-Porto, Valdichiesa, Pecorini, Pecorini a mare, Canale and Rocca di Ciauli, connected by the only asphalted road and by a dense network of pedestrian roads, completely lacking in public lighting, here there is no running water, while waiting to build a desalination plant, it is transported by tanker ships, exactly as in Stromboli, with much attention to the environment.
